Devlog week #1 - Competition
When designing a new project, it makes sense to research the existing projects that share similarities with our ideas.
Istrolid - It uses the spaceship building mechanic similar to our idea, except that it is done once and before each level. The gameplay is different tho: you spawn several ships made by you to fight hordes of enemies, always managing your resources (cost of production ) . This game has a great variety of ship components and inspired us to implement building restrictions, for ex. attaching power cells in order to have thrusters.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime- In this co-op game, two players manage the controls of a customized spaceship by interacting with one compartment at a time. The weapons, shields, enemies and level design are a massive inspiration for our game.
Heat Signature- This game has some potential similarities with our “explore the constellation” idea, where you travel space completing quests and earning payouts. Our idea is different because we intend to have one main quest, that follows a storyline, and sidequests that aren’t essential but maintaing the possibility to roam a vast map.
